Pepercorn

Hyperventilating, the first single from Peppercorn’s fantastic new album ‘Barefoot’ is a summer breeze of a single – infectious, funky and uplifting. Written by Peppercorn it was created with the help of producer and multi-instrumentalist Mark Smith, who has previously worked with artists such as David Gray, Shania Twain and Robbie Williams.

Hyperventilating has already been Radio 2’s Single of the Week and is now A-listed on the nation’s most listened to radio station. The accompanying video is on rotation on The Box and is currently charted at #31 in the Box Chart.

But this isn’t the first time Peppercorn has been poised to take on the music world. In summer 2001, she was all ready to release her eagerly anticipated debut, with massive support from music press and radio alike, but record company indecision and politics – in particular, a few changes in the BMG corporate merry-go-round – meant that despite the rave reviews she received, Peppercorn’s album was mysteriously neglected by the very company who had been so eager to sign her in the first place. Such common industry stumbling blocks were not to deter this focused singer-songwriter who was determined to overcome whatever hurdles stood in her way, and now she is launching her career on her own terms, backed by the independent record label, Full On Entertainment.

Peppercorn was born in the Western Sahara of Morocco, and raised by her mother, but was transplanted to the streets of London where she began to nurture her talents.

The resulting sound is the intimate, lively and engaging folk-rock of debut album ‘Barefoot’, an album has received wide critical acclaim from the notoriously hard-to-please press.

Music Week – ‘A highly assured debut.’ / The Observer – ‘An astonishing album… If there’s any justice Peppercorn will be a star by the end of the summer.’ / Record of The Day – ‘A major talent.’ / The Hit Sheet – ‘Hyperventilating has summer smash written all over it.’ / Glasgow Daily Record – ‘… music lovers will rejoice at the long-overdue arrival of this stunning star…. Make her the star she so justly deserves to be.’ / Oxford Mail – ‘… singer-songwriter Peppercorn is an artist of rare quality’ / Derby Daily Telegraph – ‘Peppercorn maybe sharing her tour dates with Darius, but there’s only one true Pop Star on the bill.’ / Newcastle Evening Chronicle – ‘A name to watch out for.’

Not content with simply writing about her own experiences, Peppercorn is diversifying her career interests and two of her tracks feature on the soundtrack to the forthcoming film ‘A Different Loyalty’, starring Sharon Stone and Rupert Everett.

Her music is uplifting and contagious, accented by personal lyrics reflecting a challenging childhood and cross-cultural influences. Listeners are painted an insightful and colorful picture of the life of a modern, determined and giving young woman.
